On 5 March 1942, the Press reported that, The library of the Canterbury Branch of the Royal Society of New Zealand is to be amalgamated with that of Canterbury University College... future members of the society will be able to borrow books from the combined collection, to be housed in the college library. Press, Volume LXXVIII, Issue 23579, 5 March 1942.

The following year the Press also noted that the Society's journals had been placed on the shelves of the college library and that individual books had been catalogued and that all volumes bear the society's bookplate.

This bookplate states, This volume is part of the Library of the Royal Society of New Zealand Canterbury Branch. Founded in 1862 as the Philosophical Institution of Canterbury.
