About us
We are a collection of scholars and thinkers based in Aotahi School of Māori & Indigenous Studies at the University of Canterbury trying to work with and through Māori thought or simply ancestral intellectual resources we could corral and direct them to the challenges, large and small, of the moment.
Garrick Cooper
I am from Tauranga Moana (Ngāti Ranginui) and Hauraki (Ngāti Whanaunga), an academic based in Aotahi. Decolonial philosophy for me means, metaphorically speaking, growing strong native trees in a world where the integrity of the soil, air and water is increasingly being undermined. And one where Tama-nui-i-te-rā and Tāwhirimātea have become agitated. Yet despite these challenges we will strive to grow native trees.
